As part of Katha On Ratha’s initiative to engage and empower teachers, they frequently play language building games with teachers over Whatsapp. One of the games that was posted last year is to construct as many words possible from a multisyllabic word. I played this game with my children and it was a big hit. For about an month we continued playing this game using any multisyllabic word we read. Lakshmi is the only student who kept up with this game even after we moved onto other games and language building exercises. For about a year now, every day she picks words like effervescence, hydroelectric, etc… from her textbook, sits down with a dictionary and writes down as many valid words and submits her notebook for correction. She is self-motivated and does this on her own.
